#acl All:read, write || || || The MORSE "lowpoly" challenge || MORSE is a young, international, and active (over 20 contributors) open-source simulator for academic robotics that relies 100% on Blender and the Blender Game Engine. * Learn more about MORSE * Check the source on GitHub We are pretty good at simulating robots, but not so at designing impressive assets (as you may have seen from the link above). So we call at the Blender community for help: let's take the challenge to create high-quality, low-poly, open-source, environment assets for the Blender Game Engine. So the challenge is: * 2 weeks (until Feb. 3rd) * to create one great-looking, low-poly environment * in one of these 3 categories: outdoor, cityscape, home The best ones will be selected for inclusion in the official MORSE-1.0 release (planned for 2013Q1), of course, with due credits! That also means that you accept that your work will be showcased in international robotics conferences and scientific publications. = Common rules for all environments = * build a realistic, lowpoly environment model for the Blender Game Engine * use of shaders is encouraged, but the scene still must look ok without them * poly limit: 150K * scale: 1 blender unit = 1m * All models and assets must be CC-BY or equivalent. = Bonus for... = * efficient bounding boxes (if you need, check MORSE documentation on bounding boxes) * realistic physical properties (mass, friction,...) * lively scene: you can add animations (water flowing, wind in the trees,...) with logic bricks and/or python scripts. Just make sure it does not kill the framerate! = Environment specific rules = == Outdoor scene == * size: 500m x 500m * do not hesistate to have small hills in your model, but make sure that most zones are accessible to a car-like vehicle * The map below can be a starting point for inspiration (but you do not need to match it in your model!) == City scene == * size: 250m x 250m * The map below can be a starting point for inspiration (but you do not need to match it in your model!) == Home scene: == * size: 30m x 30m (max, can be less) * your model can have stairs, but keep in mind that many robots do not have legs: ideally, your house must be fully adapted to disabled people. = Want to meet the challenge? = Edit this page, add your name at the end, with optionally a link to the !BlenderArtist thread for your project. When you're done, drop here the link to your model on Blendswap .
